Larry Lagoon in See You in the Funny Pages?

This story was the main feature in the second issue of Midnight Fiction. It was drawn in 1976 after I'd moved to Portland, and was based loosely on my experiences of trying to get started in a new town. The strip was produced in the evenings and weekends while I worked at various day jobs, primarily doing production art and lots of freelance work.

The second issue of Midnight Fiction was printed at a quick print shop and included several pages from my friend Dan Marcum. Dan and I had worked on several student film projects together in college. We made a few stop motion animation projects with characters molded out of plasticine clay and later graduated to characters made with crude armatures and latex rubber skins. During our last year in school we shot a short b&w documentary on 16mm.

When I invited Dan to contribute to Midnight Fiction, he was quick to lend his support and sent me seven pages of comix. He'd been familiar with underground comix, but I believe this was the first time he'd ever drawn comix himself.
